I recently opted to download both the Kylix Open edition, and the Borland C++ Compiler from your site. What follows, may sound rude, but it is really meant as constructive advice:

I am gravely disappointed. Not with the software itself, since I’ve barely had time to check it out. What I am disappointed in is this:

  • Registration Process. The process is incredibly cumbersome, and at certain points incredibly unclear, and you collect more information than I’m usually willing to give. Especially when I’m only downloading software for personal trial use.
  • The fact that you may at any time choose to sell/give away my email, or mail address to third parties (or afflitiates, as you choose to name it). I consider this to be a serious invasion of my privacy. Any contact from third parties SHOULD BE OPT-IN ONLY!
  • The collection of data like street address/phone/fax numbers is strictly not your business until you have to actually send me a physical item. My mailbox is full enough as it is. Furthermore, if I bought your products off the shelf, I would not have to give this information.
  • You claim to have an opt-out process available for those who do not wish to be contacted by third parties. I cannot find that, or any sort of managment interface for my account with http://www.borland.com/ [1]

[1] As a note to the webmaster: not having an interface to manage subscriptions, or accounts, and have a visible link to it on every webpage could be considered bad usability

Jeg er som sagt en smule lei av elendige websider.
